Ramadan 2026 – Warm Wishes from Doncaster & District Law Society

Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of 18 or 19 February 2026, depending on the confirmed moon sighting. As this sacred month begins, we extend our warmest wishes to our Muslim colleagues, partners, and community members observing a period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and renewed spiritual focus.

Ramadan is a time that emphasises values we deeply share across the legal profession, discipline, integrity, compassion, and service to others. Fasting from dawn to sunset encourages mindfulness and empathy, while acts of charity throughout the month remind us of the importance of supporting those in need. These principles align closely with our collective commitment to fairness, justice, and community care.

As many professionals balance fasting with demanding workloads, we encourage colleagues to support those observing by offering flexible scheduling where possible, being mindful of lunchtime meetings, and recognising that energy levels may fluctuate throughout the day. This awareness helps foster a respectful, inclusive working environment for everyone.

The month concludes with Eid al‑Fitr, expected to fall on 20 March 2026, subject to moon sighting. Eid is a time of joy, gratitude, and togetherness and we look forward to celebrating alongside our wider community. [muslimcharity.org.uk]

Human Rights Day – Why It Matters to Us All

10th December marks Human Rights Day, a global observance commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations in 1948. This landmark document enshrines the fundamental rights and freedoms that belong to every individual – regardless of race, gender, religion, or background. It reminds us that dignity, equality, and justice are not privileges, but universal rights.

For the legal profession, these principles are at the heart of what we do. From ensuring fair trials to protecting vulnerable individuals, human rights underpin our justice system and guide our daily work. In the UK, these values are reflected in the Human Rights Act 1998, which incorporates the European Convention on Human Rights into domestic law.

This year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future”, calls on us to reaffirm the relevance of human rights in everyday life and to advocate for equality and fairness in our communities.

At Doncaster & District Law Society, we believe that protecting rights starts in the “small places close to home” – in our courts, workplaces, and communities.
